Looks like a carpet…

… but its a scarf. I had this lovely hand spun wool in my stash and it was just enough for a scarf. I asked my weaving teacher Dori if she had some matching yarn for the warp and in her stash we found an 8 ply cotton in exactly the same violet. Plain weave with 4 threads/cm was too narrow so I had to change the setting to double threads in every second dent. That worked out to be just right for the irregular character of the hand spun. The braided fringes were just the right finishing and it´s mine, I´m going to keep it!

Following the sailors advice

While my boyfriend is crossing the Atlantic again, I´m weaving one of his ideas. On one of the days before leaving he was looking at my yarn stash and had the idea that using a very colorful variegated yarn, for both warp and weft, could look very interesting. And as he has been complaining, about me never following his suggestions, this time I did and it really looks awesome. The project was a bit tricky, because I only had  200 grams of yarn for a scarf. I threaded a twill with only four threads /cm, and that was definitely a too wide setting. But mixing the variegated with a plain blue yarn gave it more thickness and a lovely tweed look. The scarf was my farewell gift for my friend Marcela who went back to Argentina. I hope it´s going to keep her warm during the winter in the southern hemisphere.

Gift delivery

Today at noon I went to the marina to deliver a scarf to my friend Patrick, who did a generous donation  when I bought my loom.

Thank you!
